Somehow in life, I missed the lesson on learning how to paint your nails. I try, but they also chip instantly. They also always look streaky and generally like crap, ha. I think part of it is just that I do not have the patience. I love how my nails look painted though (for about one hour, until I get first chip!).
I also hate getting manicures, so while I enjoy the end result, having them painted professionally is not worth it to me. I would honestly rather get tattooed than have that wooden stick jammed in my cuticles. Pedicures are another story -- I finally got my first one last summer and was surprised and how much I did not hate it.
I just bought a new nail polish this weekend that lasted a full two days before it chipped, which is a new record for me. The polish came with a white base coat and then the color, and I also tried Annie's tip of submerging your nails in ice water. I forgot how long she suggested and only lasted about 20 seconds though -- I later checked and realized I was supposed to keep them in for 3 minutes (whoops!). Still, I think it might have helped.
I got a set of the Sally Hansen nail stickers for Christmas and have been meaning to try them out. There are so many different kinds now. Those seem like they might be a good solution.
Here's a little compilation of some of the different nail art stickers available now, as well as just some awesome nail art. How do they get the polish to stay? Ladies, share your secrets!
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
Really? You hate manicures? I LOVE getting my nails done. Maybe you have been going to the wrong place! You could always ask them not to push back/trim your cuticles if that's the part you don't like. I know my polish always lasts WAY longer without chipping when someone professional does it (like a week compared to 2-3 days!).
ReplyDeleteto be honest, i have only had a few, so maybe they were at the wrong place! i am weird about nails, i definitely do not like the cuticle trimming. but i agree, the end result is much better -- i will have to keep trying!
DeleteIt's all about the buffing. You have to get one of those 4 sided buffers. It gives the nail polish something to stick to in my opinion. Also get the "out the door" top coat. I can only find it at sally beauty supply, but not only does it dry relatively fast, but it actually makes the polish last. Don't be shy with it either and make sure that you swipe the top of your nails as well. (the part you would see if your fingers were pointed straight to the sky and you were looking down at them) That's my best advice. I can usually get my polish to at least last 4 days before I get chips.
ReplyDeletethank you !!! what's side is that i actually have one of those buffers, ha! i think i got it as a gift and didn't really know what to do with it, i always forget about it. i will definitely try that and the top coat. your nails looked super cute the other day so you obviously know what you are doing. :)
